Storms on Thursday evening impacted commuters throughout the city and took down trees in Flatbush.

“I had an umbrella, but my socks are still drenched and I’m still kind of wet. I did have to take an Uber to my location because the rain was a little overwhelming for me at least," said Dacius.
News 12 spoke with Christina Farrell, the first deputy commissioner for the New York City Office of Emergency Management, who encouraged people to check on their fellow New Yorkers.
“If it’s safe to do so, you know, check on your neighbors, check on elderly relatives, people that may not be following social media may not have all the things at their fingertips that many of us do, you know, and are may just be feeling a little scared. Just let them know they’re not alone and if there’s anything you can do to help them," said Farrell.
Neighbors in Flatbush, like Norma Forresder, said she was told by her neighbors that a tree fell outside her house.
She says she was scared because her grandchildren had just come home from school.
The city is urging people to stay inside and not to travel unless necessary.
