Family members of those who have died during childbirth at Woodhull Hospital are speaking out after a new report ranks them as a 2026 Best Hospital for Maternity Care.

“It was like every feeling; every emotion came back all over again. This is a slap in the face this is not right," said Denene Witherspoon, whose daughter died in 2023 during childbirth at Woodhull.
The rankings were released Tuesday by U.S. News and World Report.
The report looked at factors like C-section rates, severe unexpected newborn complications rates and other practices that "support the health of moms and babies."
Since 2020, three Black women have died during childbirth at Woodhull. News 12 reached out to the hospital and U.S. News and World Report for a comment but has not heard back.
