Central Islip teen arrested, accused of stealing car with 3-year-old inside in Brentwood

A 3-year-old child was in the back seat of a running 2014 Honda Civic when a 17-year-old male stole the vehicle from a driveway on Whipple Street at about 11:30 p.m., according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

A teenager from Central Islip was arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle with a child in the back seat in Brentwood on Thursday night.

A 3-year-old child was in the back seat of a running 2014 Honda Civic when a 17-year-old male stole the vehicle from a driveway on Whipple Street at about 11:30 p.m., according to the Suffolk County Police Department. Police did not identify the suspect due to their age.

Police say there was an extensive search for the vehicle, and it was discovered on Bretton Road in Hauppauge at about 5 a.m. The child was discovered unharmed but transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for evaluation.

The teen was charged with grand larceny.
