Mixed reactions as New York City schools reopen after blizzard

Its back to the books for students after February break and an added snow day after a blizzard swept through New York City.
Some parents, including Shaquaya Bovian, said reopening schools was not a major concern. “It’s New York. You gotta do what you have to do,” Bovian said.
Sidewalks near schools in Canarsie appeared clearer than the day before, but students like Chase said snow piles still made it difficult for him and his brother to get to and from school.
“The snow was in my way. He fell in the snow,” Chase said.
Just over 63% of students attended class, although final attendance numbers will be released Wednesday, according to Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels. Some parents were also unhappy with the decision to reopen.
“I think it should be closed today, but it’s open. Because it’s hard to pick the kids up right now,” said Maggie.
