People in Easton gathered Thursday to recognize National Donate Life Month.

A donate life flag raising was held at town hall featuring the first selectman and staff from Donate Life CT and New England Donor Services.

Organizers say although many people are aware of organ and tissue donations, conversations about becoming a donor usually do not occur until a tragedy happens.

Andrew Jones, a multicultural community outreach coordinator at New England Donor Services, says the goal is for people to become more comfortable about talking about donations.

Following those conversations, he hopes people are inspired to become a donor. Jones says anyone can become a donor and there are very few limiting factors that would prevent someone from being able to donate.

Jones says having these conversations is critical in Connecticut.

"Connecticut actually ranks second to last in all of New England for register donors. A lot of places that have low registration rates are in Hartford County, New Haven, along the shoreline. And those are a lot of the places that we are trying to target. Again, we're trying to get people to have that conversation," he says.
