For those who may want to go to Europe this summer but may be wary due to rising costs, Long Island has the fourth next best thing — Montauk.
The East End destination recently claimed the number 4 spot nationally as the best American alternative to a European summer vacation, according to new data from SIXT+, a car ranking service.
Sixt+ ranked 25 U.S. destinations against European summer hot spots and paired them based on criteria such as climate similarity, rising search demand and social media buzz. It determined that Montauk's European equivalent is Biarritz, France, a seaside town in the southwestern portion of the country.
With summer on the way, Long Islanders won't have to stray too far to find a great vacation destination.
