Federal agents were seen searching a field Tuesday near a major roadway and hiking trail in Putnam County.

The activity is centered in Garrison near the intersection of Route 9 and Route 403, where the Appalachian Trail crosses Route 9.

FBI evidence technicians were observed digging in the ground and using metal detectors across the field.

Specialized dogs from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were also brought in to assist at the scene.

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies were present to manage traffic and secure the area.

The sheriff’s office said the FBI presence is connected to follow‑up activity related to a previous case.

Officials have not released additional details, and inquiries have been made to the FBI.
