Police have confirmed that a man fatally shot himself in Lyndhurst to avoid being arrested.

The incident took place at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday, as detectives with the Union County Prosecutor's Office were serving an arrest warrant on Lake Avenue.

Authorities say that as they attempted to arrest the man outside of his home, he ran back inside. As investigators tried to convince him to surrender, one gunshot was heard. Police would enter the home and find the man deceased.

Public records show the home is owned by Brendan Trivisonno.

Trivisonno was questioned in March of last year about the disappearance of his ex-wife, Janaina Goncalves, who lived in Elizabeth.

Detectives could be seen searching the home and a car in the driveway

As for the investigation into Goncalves' disappearance, there is still a $10,000 reward being offered by the Union County Crimestoppers for information leading to the whereabouts of that woman.
