Police: Woman robbed by man riding bicycle

Police say they found a woman, who told them that while she walking on the sidewalk, a man on a bicycle approached her and grabbed her bag, causing her to fall on to the ground.

A Stamford man is facing charges for allegedly stealing items from a woman while he was riding a bicycle, police say.

Police responded near West Broad Street around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say they found a woman, who told them that while she walking on the sidewalk, a man on a bicycle approached her and grabbed her bag, causing her to fall on to the ground.

She told police that the man left with her items after a brief struggle.

Police say because a rapid response by patrol officers, they were able to quickly locate Walter Delgado nearby.

The woman was able to positively identified Delgado and her belongings were recovered.

Delgado was charged with robbery, assault, larceny, criminal mischief and breach of peace.

He was issued a $150,000 bond is expected to appear in court in June.

Police say Delgado's arrest " highlights the effectiveness of immediate response, strong communication, and coordinated patrol efforts. Great work by all officers involved in quickly locating the suspect and recovering the victim’s property. "
