The Cornwall community is mourning the loss of a 19-year-old killed in a fiery rollover crash while on his way to work.
Town of Cornwall police say the single-car crash happened just before 9:30 a.m. Sunday on Mineral Springs Road, about a half-mile north of Trout Brook Road.
Police say Logan Malone, of Cornwall, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 southbound when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a guardrail, went down a steep embankment, hit a tree and caught fire.
Malone was pronounced dead at the scene.
His mother, Kim Malone, told News 12 her son was headed to work at the time of the crash. She described him as a very happy kid with lots of friends who was known around town as “The Mayor.”
A GoFundMe created to help cover funeral expenses had raised thousands of dollars within a day of being posted.
Malone graduated from Cornwall Central High School last year. In a statement, district Superintendent Megan Argenio told News 12, "This is devastating news. Anytime a young life is lost, it's absolutely tragic. Logan exemplified kindness and was a truly sweet, genuine person. He will be incredibly missed, and we are heartbroken for his family. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts. "
The crash remains under investigation by Cornwall police.
