Ten ducklings were reunited with their mother thanks to a quick-thinking witness and Elmwood Park first responders on Tuesday.

The rescue, playfully dubbed "Duck Tales" by local officials, began when a mother duck lost her brood during a walk through town.

The ducklings fell into a storm drain, leaving their mother stranded nearby. A witness who spotted the incident immediately contacted 9-1-1 to alert the Elmwood Park Police Department.

Officers arrived on the scene and realized the ducklings were trapped deep within the drainage system. They called in reinforcements from the Elmwood Park Department of Public Works to assist with the extraction.

Working together, police officers and DPW workers were able to lift the heavy storm grates and carefully reach the trapped birds. One by one, all 10 ducklings were safely removed from the drain and reunited with their mother, who had been waiting nearby.
