The NYPD bomb squad responded to Sheepshead Bay after a resident called 911 to report that they found what looked like a hand grenade inside their home.
Authorities say the call came in just after 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, sending units to 2668 East 23rd St.
The NYPD's Emergency Service Unit blocked off an area around the home as a precaution while officers investigated.
A neighbor tells News 12 the woman who lives in the home was cleaning out her house when she "found something that scared her" and called 911 just to be safe.
The neighbor says the woman's father, who used to live in the house, was "in the military like 60 years ago and collected things."
Despite the chaos that took over the residential block, the neighbor tells News 12 that residents remained calm.
News 12 crews saw the bomb squad leaving around two hours later.
Police say the bomb squad deemed the device was inert and that it is unclear if it was a hand grenade.
No one was injured.
