Riders rallied along Flatbush Avenue on Wednesday, calling for center-running bus lanes along the entire Flatbush Avenue corridor.

News 12 previously reported that the New York City Department of Transportation is implementing center-running bus lanes along Flatbush Avenue from Livingston Street to Grand Army Plaza in an effort to cut commute times.

Jolyse Race, a senior organizer at Riders Alliance, says riders want to see the project expand.

“There are center-running bus lanes and riders were happy with that win. And we want to see really great projects also to go all the way to Kings Plaza, because obviously Flatbush Avenue doesn't stop at Grand Army Plaza," said Race.

Max Barton, strategic researcher for Laborers Local 1010, says unreliable bus service impacts quality of life.

“Once you have a day and you're done with it and your body's just aching, you really just want to sit down and get home and get that done with it," said Barton. "The wait times and, you know, the travel times for the buses in New York City, it's really the worst in the nation. I just want to get home at a faster pace than to walk."

News 12 reached out to the New York City Department of Transportation but has not yet heard back.
