Police identify second victim killed in I-287 tanker fire

State police identified the passenger in the Jeep as 25-year-old, Steven Merisier.

A large Volvo tractor pulling a fuel tanker erupted into flames on Sunday after a Jeep SUV struck the rear of the 8,000-gallon fuel tanker.

The scene left both the tanker and Jeep fully engulfed in flames creating thick black smoke, which was seen along Route 287 near Exit 2A, between exits 1 and 2.

State police identified the passenger in the Jeep as 25-year-old, Steven Merisier.

He died from his injuries on May 18.

Authorities are still working on finding out the identity of the driver of the Jeep.
