A 21-year-old woman is recovering in the hospital after being shot in the leg in Melrose late Thursday.

Police responded to 654 Prospect Ave. just after 11 p.m. to a call of a shooting.

Investigators say the victim and her friends were walking southbound down Prospect Avenue when an unidentified man shot at the group from across the street.

The 21-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to her left leg and was transported to Lincoln Hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery.

On Friday morning, police tape blocked off several storefronts as officers searched for the gunman. They say he was last seen wearing all black.

The investigation is ongoing.
