Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez says a Flatbush man was sentenced for a 2020 shooting that killed an 18-year-old man and left an innocent bystander paralyzed.

Jadis Saint Victor, 25, will serve 25 years to life behind bars for opening fire down a crowded street in Flatbush on Aug. 19, 2020, killing Malcolm Ameade and permanently paralyzing Sam Metcalfe.

Prosecutors say Saint Victor was on the hunt for 18-year-old Ameade, whom he spotted just before 3:30 p.m. near Ocean and Woodruff avenues. Victor opened fire from the window of his parked car, emptying an entire magazine from his .45 caliber pistol.

Amede returned fire, sending more bullets flying by pedestrians, including young children.

Prosecutors say Metcalfe was walking home with his wife when he was caught in the crossfire. He suffered a gunshot wound to his stomach, according to court documents.

Amede was shot multiple times in the chest and arms. He did not survive.

News 12 spoke with Metcalfe's brother-in-law, Joseph Parziale, just over a week after the shooting.

"My father called me and he told me that Sam was shot and it was just like I couldn't comprehend the words," said Parziale.

Saint Victor attempted to escape police after the shooting and fled to Indiana, where he was arrested just under a year later, court documents say.

Saint Victor was convicted of murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon on Feb. 25, 2026. He was sentenced on Tuesday.

"This sentence holds the defendant accountable and makes clear that those who choose to settle beefs with guns and terrorize Brooklyn communities will be arrested and brought to justice," said Gonzalez.

The gunman's father, Jean Saint Victor, tried to help his son evade justice by filing a false report, claiming his BMW X5 was stolen when in reality, his son used it to carry out the shooting. He was sentenced to five years' probation.
