U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will continue to use the Islip Town rifle range for at least three more years.

The town board approved the contract renewal with a 4-1 vote at a meeting on Tuesday.

The agreement has been in place for the past 20 years and it gives multiple agencies access to the range.

Councilman Jorge Guadron cast the lone dissenting vote, advocating to change the language to limit ICE to use the facility exclusively for training.

Those changes were included, but the one Democrat on the board still feels it falls short of what many people in the community have been advocating for.

"It might guarantee the right use of the rifle range; however, the community feels it is not enough,” Guadron said.

"Any resource that goes to training ICE in any capacity is contributing to the discrimination and torture of minority groups all over the Island," said Nick Ryan, of West Sayville, one of several activists who attended the meeting.

The contract is renewed until June 30, 2028, with an option to extend it for another three years.
