The New York City Department of Sanitation is giving residents a final warning to use official bins when setting out their trash or face a $50 fine.
Residential buildings with one to nine units must follow the rule starting Sept. 8.
The city says the bins are rodent-resistant, designed to work with new garbage truck equipment and make trash collection easier for sanitation workers.
Bins of all sizes and colors are available for purchase at Home Depot.
