The NYPD has identified the two women who died after a Mercedes-Benz plowed into pedestrians and multiple vehicles in Allerton on Friday.
The crash happened just before 2:15 p.m. at Allerton and Holland avenues. According to investigators, an 81-year-old man driving a Mercedes-Benz C300 was traveling westbound on Allerton Avenue when he struck a 39-year-old woman in one crosswalk.
Police say the driver then continued through a red light and struck three more women in a second crosswalk. The driver struck four women, killing 39-year-old Angel Johnson and 57-year-old Robin Kennedy.
All four women were taken to Jacobi Hospital, where Johnson and Kennedy were pronounced dead.
An 84-year-old woman remains in critical condition, while a 60-year-old woman remains in stable condition, according to police.
Investigators say the Mercedes then struck multiple vehicles, causing a chain-reaction crash that injured several other people.
Nine people in total were taken to Jacobi Hospital.
The other injured victims, including the driver, are listed in stable condition.
Authorities have said the driver appeared to suffer a medical episode before the crash.
No arrests have been made, and the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad is continuing to investigate.
