A 25-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot twice in the head Saturday afternoon in the Soundview section of the Bronx, according to police.

Authorities say the shooting happened just after 1:15 p.m. near 1740 Lafayette Ave. Arriving officers found the victim with two gunshot wounds to the head.

The man was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition as of Sunday morning.

Police are searching for two men connected to the shooting. Sources told News 12 the suspects were wearing black clothing and fled the scene on scooters.

The shooting left neighbors and local business owners shaken, with several expressing concern over safety in the neighborhood.

“It’s crazy man... got kids man. Shouldn’t be happening,” said one Soundview resident who witnessed the aftermath.

Another resident, Timothy Grier, said the violence has left neighbors unsettled.

“I think it’s a horrible thing that’s happened,” Grier said.

Longtime Lafayette Avenue storeowner Elezar Santiago said crime in the neighborhood has become a growing concern.

“Neighborhood, it’s dangerous now,” Santiago said.

Residents described hearing gunshots ring out shortly before police arrived.

Grier, who has lived in Soundview for more than a decade, said he initially mistook the gunfire for something far less serious.

“I almost thought it was just firecrackers to be honest with you because Fourth of July is coming up. Normally at that time of the year, you hear that stuff. Unfortunately, it wasn’t,” Grier said.

Santiago said he immediately recognized the sounds as gunfire.

“I heard three shots. I tried to see what was going on, I went to the front and they told me it was a shooting,” Santiago said.

The incident has also prompted someresidents to call for a larger police presence in the area.

“We should have more officers so we can be safer,” Santiago said.

Grier echoed those concerns, calling for more neighborhood policing.

“Let’s have some more neighborhood police officers that know a little more about how these crimes happen at specific neighborhoods,” Grier said.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the shooting.
