A 28-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Sheepshead Bay Friday night, and a search is now underway for the driver who left the scene.
The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Francis Perez, who worked as a gas station clerk. He had gone to a corner store to pick up some snacks and was crossing the street near Avenue V when he was struck around 8 p.m.
Police are now searching for the driver that struck Perez. They are looking for a blue Toyota SUV or minivan.
Family and friends have lit candles at the crash scene to honor their loved one. They say Perez left behind an 8-year-old son.
News 12 spoke to Perez's devastated girlfriend, Sandra McIllwain. "He told me to make him fish. I still got the fish waiting for him," she said.
She urged the driver to come forward. "Please, please, I'm telling you and I'm asking you to please come forward. Turn yourself in, because I got a little boy that don't have a father no more."
Anyone with information is urged to call police.
