Federal prosecutors are bringing charges against three people following one of the city's largest drug busts.
Prosecutors accuse Lilian Weickowski, a pharmacist with offices in Brooklyn and Queens, and her husband Marcin Jakacki of selling thousands of pills to customers with fake prescriptions or without prescriptions.
Prosecutors are also charging Robert Cybulski, allegedly one of the couple's biggest customers, in the case.
All three were arrested Wednesday on varying charges including conspiracy to commit health care fraud, money laundering and conspiracy to distribute the drugs. If convicted of all charges, each defendant faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara says the alleged drug scheme raked in millions of dollars between 2010 and 2012.
Bharara says that more Americans die annually from prescription pill overdoses than heroin and cocaine combined.
