A Brooklyn church is mourning the loss of three of its own after a deadly car accident upstate.
A teenager and two men from the Bethesda Seventh-day Adventist Church in Flatlands were killed when the van they were riding in collided with a semi-truck in Ulster County Sunday morning. They had been on their way home from a religious retreat in Ellenville at the time.
State police say that the driver of the van failed to stop at a stop sign as they got onto Route 209. The vehicle was then struck on the passenger side by a tractor-trailer, killing 17-year-old Miguel St. Louis, of Brooklyn, and 48-year-old Garry Pierre Edouard and 33-year-old Ricadeau Anantua, both of Long Island.
The 61-year-old driver, identified as Guepson Gue, of Brooklyn, was air lifted to Westchester Medical Center, along with another passenger, Mario Esteverne Sr., of Long Island. Both are listed in critical but stable condition. Two more passengers in the van, as well as the driver of the semi-truck, were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. No criminal charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
