47 million women get access to free contraceptives
Some 47 million women in the U.S. now have access to free contraceptives as a key part of President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act goes into effect.
The provision requires all new health insurance plans to provide FDA-approved contraceptives, such as birth control pills, at no cost. The measure is one of the most controversial parts of the law, sparking outrage among some religious institutions.
Women can also receive seven other preventative health benefits for free, including mammograms, pelvic exams and prenatal care.
