A major crash involving seven cars sent 16 people to the hospital Monday afternoon with victims ranging in age from just 2 months to 79 years old. Fortunately, all are expected to survive.
The crash happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ocean Parkway and Avenue V. According to police, a 54-year-old woman rear-ended another vehicle at a traffic light. That car then hit four additional cars. Police say a seventh vehicle was also sideswiped during the chain reaction.
Damaged vehicles and debris were scattered across the sidewalk, including car seats and doors. First responders rushed 16 people to local hospitals, with six of them being under the age of 10. They say a 17th person was involved but refused medical attention.
City data reveals two other crashes at the same location earlier this year.
As of this morning, it remains unclear if the driver who caused the initial crash will face any charges.
