Dozens of people, including 17 from Brooklyn, have been arrested in a child pornography bust that spanned the New York Metropolitan area.
A total of 70 men and one woman were arrested by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Two of the suspects arrested in Brooklyn are Rabbi Samuel Waldman and Eduardo Salcedo Urzola, who worked as an au pair. Waldman was initially accused of making and distributing child pornography from his home back in March, with some videos showing children as young as 4. Waldman, at the time, denied that claim to News 12 Brooklyn.
Among the other suspects are a police chief, paramedic and a man who is a Boy Scout leader and Little League coach. The woman, arrested in New Jersey, was allegedly producing pornography of her own child to share online.
The investigation began in January when former Mount Pleasant Police Chief Brian Fanelli was arrested in Westchester. He pleaded not guilty to his charges earlier this week.
Investigators say they have seized nearly 600 laptop and desktop computers, tablets and smartphones containing thousands of pornographic images of children. Investigators are still combing through evidence and say more arrests are likely.
