There’s still a police presence at Tompkins Square Park in the East Village, six days after a shooting that left a person dead and the gunman still on the loose.

According to a source close to the NYPD, the deceased 74-year-old man has been identified as Fermin Brito of Kips Bay.

The incident happened near the intersection of East Seventh Street and Avenue A.

Police say on Friday, July 12, they were called around 9 p.m. to help with an assault.

When they arrived, they found a 74-year-old man who had been shot in the back and a 44-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds.

Both men were taken to Bellevue Hospital.

Police say the 74-year-old man died, and the 44-year-old man is in stable condition and recovering from his injuries.

According to a source close to the NYPD, drug sales frequently take place at the park.

Police have not released the reason behind the shooting or if the victims were the intended targets.

No arrests have been made yet.
