Eight people, including five firefighters, were injured after an early morning fire on 73rd Street near Third Avenue in Bay Ridge.
FDNY Battalion Chief James Brennan says the fire started on the first floor of 247 73rd St., but the smoke quickly filled the building, trapping residents on the second and third floors.
Two residents were pulled from the building with minor injuries, and a firefighter was momentarily trapped.
One of the biggest issues was clutter.
"We had a major clutter issue on the first floor and top floor. Any time you have a heavy clutter condition, it breeds fire and it makes it very difficult for the members,” says Brennan.
