The FDNY says eight people were injured in a fire on Union Avenue in Williamsburg.

The fire appeared to impact an affordable housing apartment. The FDNY says the call for the fire came in at 2:06 p.m. and was placed under control by 3:09 p.m. They say the fire was reported on the second floor.

The FDNY says six civilians had minor injuries but refused medical attention. They also say a firefighter had minor injuries and one person had serious injuries. Both were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK.

News 12 spoke with residents like Lucy Rivera, who was inside at the time of the fire.

“We were going to have dinner I was in the middle of cooking. Before I knew it, we started to hear the fire engine. Then I opened the door and I couldn’t see. It was all smoke,” said Rivera.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
