Activists launched a petition against a city plan that they say would redefine Bushwick for years to come.
Last April, the Department of City Planning unveiled its Bushwick neighborhood plan, designed to promote new infrastructure, jobs and housing in the area.
A spokesperson for Councilmember Antonio Reynoso says he opposes the plan in part because it would rezone manufacturing land to residential.
Activists from the group Mi Casa No Es Su Casa also criticized the rezoning plan that would allow a 16-story building to rise in the neighborhood.
In a statement, the Department of City Planning said that planning for Bushwick is in no way done.
They also said that they will continue to work with local advocates, residents, businesses and elected officials.
