Advocacy groups and victims of abuse rallied Sunday evening denouncing alleged child abuse cover-ups at a yeshiva in Crown Heights.
As guests filed into Oholei Torah's annual fundraising gala, dozens of protesters rallied across the street criticizing the yeshiva for ignoring years of alleged child abuse at the school. Activists accuse the yeshiva's leadership for safeguarding the alleged abusers and overlooking the cases and not disciplining them.
News 12 spoke with students off-camera who said the allegations are overblown, outdated and denied ever witnessing any form of abuse. Others believe students are afraid to come forward.
Mark Appel, of the Voice of Justice, attributes silence from the students as an aversion to violating the religion.
"By not covering it up, you are making an embarrassment of the Jewish community," said Appel.
