The Rev. Al Sharpton is protesting a street name in Brooklyn Saturday.

Sharpton joined local clergy and other protesters outside Fort Hamilton Army Base. They called for the U.S. Army to change the name of a street inside the compound.

General Lee Avenue was named in honor of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Sharpton says Lee supported slavery and doesn't deserve to be honored.

A representative of Fort Hamilton says that the renaming process could take a very long time. Protesters say they will be patient, but they will continue their fight.

A spokesman for the Army says the street naming was originally in the spirit of reconciliation, not division. He says that any honor or installation represents individual soldiers in history, not causes or ideologies.
