Albany Houses cuts ribbon on remodeled community center room
Residents of the Albany Houses celebrated the opening of a remodeled community center room Tuesday.
The project began last year when the furniture store West Elm reached out to CAMBA Cornerstone, which operates the community center.
The Brooklyn-based furniture store wanted each room at the center to be functional and modern for the youth programs and meetings that will be held in each space. The program works at bringing civic engagement to young people in Brooklyn.
The remodeled room will be a space for the NYC Young Men's Initiative. CAMBA Cornerstone and West Elm say they hope to team up to remodel more Brooklyn community centers within the next two years.
According to its website, CAMBA’s Cornerstone Community Centers operate in NYCHA housing facilities during the after-school, evening and weekend hours.
