A Gravesend salon owner says someone stole thousands of dollars from the business. Police are now asking for the public's help to track down the thief- who was caught on camera.
Natalia Zavulan has been in the beauty industry most of her life.
Two years ago, she decided to open NZ Beauty Studio in Gravesend, Brooklyn.
"It's very hard work,” Zavulan explained. “I'm alone like, I don't have any partners. I'm alone and I'm trying to...make it work."
But running her small business just got even harder. Exclusive surveillance video from last Tuesday night shows a person stealing from Zavulan's purse. Police are hoping someone watching can identify him.
“He went inside my bag,” said Zavulan. “He took the wallet out. He took all the money I had in there. He put the wallet inside. He closed the bag and he just left like two minutes."
The owner of NZ Beauty Studio said she was in the back of her salon doing pedicures when the thief snuck in and snatched her purse. She said she had just taken out thousands in cash to pay the rent for her business.
Police say the thief got away with $3,000 in cash.
"I have to work hard and I'll work harder to get that money back because I need to pay the rent and still have to save money,” said Zavulan.
Police say the suspect ran westbound on Avenue U.
"I feel very sorry about that, and I feel very mad also,” the salon owner said. “You have to stop somehow and live a normal life and because people are trying hard to make this money, that's not fair."
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS, submit a tip online or reach out anonymously on social media.
