338ds agoThe OCA Westchester/Hudson Valley chapter is working on plans to combat anti-Asian attacks in the area.
Most recently, an Asian woman was hit in the head 125 times while entering her Yonkers apartment building.
William Kaung, with OCA, the region's top advocacy group for the rights of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, says they're going to help people conquer the fear that now exists in our Asian communities.
They're organizing self-defense classes for Asians of all ages.
"Some of the self-defense classes are basically very physical, and they will mainly run out of martial arts school," says Kaung. There's also less physical instruction for seniors."
If you feel somebody's following you...what you should do and also how to use personal items to defend yourself -- like a comb or a little flashlight," says Kaung.
A "Basic Self Defense and Bystander Intervention Training for Senior Citizens" event will be held on June 4. It will take place during the Asian American Heritage Festival at Kensico Dam in Valhalla.
