New York City officials kept all beaches closed Tuesday due to the possibility of dangerous conditions stemming from Hermine.
The storm was anticipated to bring heavy rain and high winds with the potential for dangerous rip currents and coastal flooding, but tracked farther east, missing the impact zone for most of the tri-state area.
Red flags flying at beaches Tuesday served as a reminder that while the sand was open to foot traffic, the water was off-limits for swimming.
During the weekend, the city was on alert for Hermine, causing some people to completely cancel or change their holiday plans.
Beachgoers were also unable to swim in the water on Monday, but it didn't stop many people from making the most of Labor Day.
