An alligator was captured Sunday in
Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and taken to the Bronx Zoo where it will undergo
rehabilitation.
NYC Parks maintenance staff spotted the
reptile in the lake and alerted Parks Enforcement Patrol and Urban Park
Rangers.

It is believed that the animal was
illegally released there. Officials for the city say the animal was
in poor condition and possibly shocked from the water.
Experts warn that exotic animals can harm
local species and the environment. Anyone that spots an abandoned animal should
call 311 or find an Urban Park Ranger.
