A judge has ruled against Debbie Almontaser's request to stop the Department of Education (DOE) appointment of a new principal at Khalil Gibran International Academy.
Almontaser had requested an injunction to prevent the DOE from making a permanent hire. She also asked the judge to name a third party to reconsider her re-application to the position.
The former principal says she was coerced to resign in August following comments she made to the New York Post regarding a controversial school T-shirt. She reapplied for the position in the fall, but her application did not advance in the hiring process.
In addition to the injunction request, she is seeking compensatory damages for her dismissal. Almontaser plans to appeal the judge's ruling on Thursday.
