There are several proposals on the table to redevelop the Kingsbridge Armory, which has sat vacant for years, but community leaders and local union officials are lacing up to support one plan in particular. Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. was joined by union reps and other community officials to throw their support behind a proposal for an ice rink and arena at the armory. Hockey legend Mark Messier was also on hand to support the plan. The plan would create nine skating rinks and a 5,000-seat arena for spectators. Officials say the ice rink proposal would bring 1,800 construction jobs to the borough, plus hundreds of permanent jobs once the rink is complete. They say it would also generate millions of dollars in revenue. The city is expected to make a decision on the Kingsbridge Armory by the end of the year.Ice rinks, 4-D theater in competing plans for Kingsbridge Armory
