The Salvation Army is facing a bump in the road to help the needy after discovering arson along with vandalism to its trucks earlier this month.
It tells News 12 it was looking to get the trucks back on the road earlier this month, but it found rubble, blown-out windows and visible damage - like a shattered windshield.
The trucks help to pick up people’s donations from clothing to furniture in the city and helps fund rehabilitation centers.
The Salvation Army tells News 12 that the trucks were only parked at 62 Hanson Place temporarily because it didn’t have drivers to drive them.
As things pick up, especially during this time of year, it was looking to put them back in service. Unfortunately, the engines won’t be revved up just yet as they will have to see repairs.
Police tell News 12 that a complaint was filed for arson just last month on Friday Oct. 29.
The Salvation Army tells News 12 the bump in the road will not stop its mission. Police tell News 12 that the investigation is ongoing.
No arrests have been made at this time.
