The owners of Coney Island's Astroland are preparing for the amusement park's last hurrah and speaking about the difficult decision to sell to a developer.
Owner Carol Hill Albert sold the three-acre site last year to developer Joseph Sitt?s Thor Equities for $31 million. Albert says her family, which has owned the park since 1962, originally rejected the developer's offers. However, Hill says paying for the park was costly and the city was reportedly talking about making Astroland a year-round destination.
The Albert family will continue to run the Cyclone ride, which is a city landmark.
