A four-alarm fire that broke out inside a house on Van Nest Avenue this afternoon has sent at least 17 firefighters to the hospital, according to officials.
EMS officials say a 911 call came in at 1:11 p.m. about a fire that ignited on the top floor of a three-story row house at 726 Van Nest Ave. The fire then spread to four neighboring buildings, among them two homes, one commercial space and one mixed-use structure.
Officials say all the firefighters were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, and two civilians were treated at the scene for injuries.
The Red Cross is assisting the more than 11 families displaced by the fire.
