The high temperatures didn?t keep critics of the Atlantic Yards Development Project from rallying at Grand Army Plaza Sunday.
Those against the plan say the new development will ruin the character of the neighborhood. They also say that many residents will be displaced due to the government?s right to seize property by eminent domain. This was the fourth rally organized by ?Develop Don?t Destroy,? the coalition group fighting the project. The group says it plans to continue to rally and to make more residents aware of the project?s disadvantages.
Meanwhile, the project developer, Forest City Ratner has finished the final study of the project?s environmental effects. The $3.5 billion project includes a Nets basketball arena, office space and nearly 7,000 apartments. The developer says it will continue to address all of residents? concerns.
