Some students in need are starting the new school year right with a fresh haircut courtesy of a Brownsville barbershop.
Students from the Help 1 Family Shelter got free haircuts at DL Pro Cuts. The barbershop partnered with What About the Children, a community-based organization that helps young people get ready for school.
In addition to a free haircut, each child went home with a backpack full of school supplies.
DL Pro Cuts owner Derwin Leitch says this was the first time he has given free haircuts for those in need, but it will not be the last. He says he'd like to continue the tradition twice a year - when school starts and around graduation time.
