An
annual basketball tournament returned to Wingate Park in Brooklyn on Thursday.
The
Dunker’s Delight Tournament focuses on getting young adults off of the streets
and stopping the rise in gun violence in local communities.
The
tournament was close to not happening this year – organizers say they were
initially denied the full permit for the tournament by the local 71st Precinct.
That changed once Mayor Eric Adams stepped in to work with the NYPD to make
sure the annual tradition was able to take place.
The
tournament, which has now been going for over 30 years, runs until the middle
of August.
