A Bay Ridge workshop sought to address Tuesday evening a discriminatory local encounter that went viral last week.

Video of the incident shows a woman berating another woman in a hijab as they ride a bus -- and no one intervening.

The aggressor taunts her target, claiming immigration agents were on the bus and bragging about her citizenship. It happened on the S53 bus, which runs from Bay Ridge to Staten Island.

The workshop aims to teach people how to safely get involved in de-escalating such situations. Several city agencies partnered with the Arab American Association of New York to provide the training.

"I would try to distract the victim and sort of remove them from that situation," says Reem Ramadan, a member of the Arab American Association. "That's just one tactic out of very, very many."
