They didn't fly in wearing red capes, but the men who represent super heroes in dozens of boys lives joined them at school Tuesday.
Excellence Boys Charter School in Bed-Stuy is focusing on the heroes boys have at home during its second annual "Bring Your Superman to School Day."
The purpose of the event is to fight the stereotype of missing father figures, and to celebrate the male mentors students have, whether it's their father, uncle, grandfather or another family member.
Participants shared stories about bonding father-son activities, and discussed the importance of setting a good example. The school hopes the event will help students one day serve as a superman to young boys in their own lives.
Some of the mentors who participated in the event told News 12 that they know they don't need super powers to be supermen to their children, they just need to show them love and support.
