A Bedford-Stuyvesant health clinic is setting the standard for state-of-the-art clinics in Brooklyn and the city, according to City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

The Bedford-Stuyvesant Family Health Center is building a $19 million facility. Quinn says the clinic is an example of the 10 clinics she would like to open in high-need neighborhoods. She says the family center provides the primary care that is needed in other zip codes across the city.

A panel of experts will choose the neighborhoods for the proposed clinics over the next few months. Meanwhile, Quinn has to push for the $25 million funding needed for the clinics during the budget process. Quinn adds that with five hospitals slated to close over the next two years, the need for the clinics will be even greater.
