The community of Bedford-Stuyvesant has been shaken by the ambush shooting deaths of two NYPD officers last month. A prayer vigil and rally held in the neighborhood today looked to heal the wounds that the shooting has left.
The group Bed-Stuy United and Councilman Robert Cornegy set up the vigil to honor all lives lost to gun violence in 2014. Residents from all over the community bowed their heads as pastors from dozens of local churches prayed for an end to violence.
Participants released white balloons for each of the people who died from gun violence in Bed-Stuy over the past year.
The over-arching message of the service was that all lives matter.
