Local organizations held a news conference and vigil Thursday to call for an end to violence on a day known as NYC Go Purple Day.
Landmarks across the city were lit up purple and New Yorkers wore purple to show support for survivors of domestic violence.
The Rise Project and the NYC Crisis Management held their own event to get the attention of all those who walked by Restoration Plaza in Bed Stuy.
Public Advocate Jumaane Williams attended, saying that issues pertaining to violence are important to keep in the forefront. He says the city can't rely on law enforcement to solve an issue.
Advocates say they will continue to raise their voices on the matter.
